I offer conference interpreting services, both onsite and through remote platforms, depending on job and customer requirements. For this type of assignments I usually work with a partner, in accordance with best practice guidelines. In my former position as a senior manager for one of the largest interpreting agencies in the UK, I was also involved in organising and delivering conference interpreting in a variety of settings, from corporate and commercial events to Scottish Parliament plenary sessions and high profile High Court trials, such as the Al-Megrahi v. HMA, and HMA v. Marek Harcar cases.

During this period I was able to work with and learn from some exceptionally skilled and experienced interpreters in the UK, starting my training and entry into the conference interpreting world.

Construction Industry Training Programmes Interpreting

I have experience interpreting for various types of construction industry training programmes, such as CPCS, IPAF, PASMA, CITB and City & Guilds certification programmes, and I am aware of the specific requirements and peculiarities of this type of interpreting assignments. Some of the training programmes I have interpreted for include:

  • Working in Confined Spaces - medium risk (City & Guilds)

  • A09 Forward Tipping Dumper (CPCS)

  • A56 Dump Truck – Articulated Chassis (CPCS)

  • A40 Slinger/Signaller (CPCS)

  • A17 Telescopic Handler (CPCS)

  • A31 Ride on Roller (CPCS)

  • Scissor & Boom Training for MEWP operators (IPAF)

  • Towers for Users – Standard Mobile Access Tower (PASMA)

  • Work at Height (Essentials) Course – PASMA

This type of interpreting assignment requires specific expertise, as the interpreter needs to be able to communicate technical language at the correct level used by the trainees – which often involves specific jargon and colloquial expressions, which are substantially different from standard technical language. My experience in this type of interpreting means I can bridge the linguistic and cultural gap to allow the trainees to successfully complete their training programme.
