ABOUT ME

My Background

I am a qualified and experienced freelance translator and conference interpreter. I was originally born in Portugal, but moved to Scotland where I have been living since 1995. I was always passionate for learning languages and was fortunate enough to be able to pursue a career in this field as a translator, conference interpreter, and business advisor.

Over the past 25 years, I have translated several million words, and interpreted in a variety of settings requiring conference and simultaneous interpreting for a range of high profile public and corporate customers. I am also a trainer of interpreters and head teacher for a programme of studies for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting from the Chartered Institute of Linguists, having published several books on the topic, including a Glossary of Scottish Legal Terms for Public Service Interpreters. To date, this continues to be the only specialist Scots Law glossary for professional and practising public service interpreters.

I have also previously worked as a senior manager in the translation industry, where I personally liaised and provided advice to a number of public organisations in the U.K., such as the Ministry of Justice, Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service, Police Scotland, Scottish Government, NHS and many corporate customers. I have also been an approved translator for the European Commission for a number of years, translating from English into Portuguese and vice-versa.
